Pioneers Read!
On August 19th, several Pioneer players and coaches partnered with Robbinsdale Parks to host a reading event in which Pioneer players read books to children and posed for photos.
In 2022, Pioneer Head Coach Damien Rochon-Washington launched his reading program for the team. As the son of a teacher, Damien felt, and still feels, it is important for children to have access to books. With this in mind, he began bringing crates full of children’s books not only to practices but also games. Telling players they were welcome to take books home to their children, Damien saw books that were donated to him go home with his athletes. The team responded beautifully and showed enthusiasm.
This past Saturday, Anthony Smith (O Line, #79), Rodney Lewis (LB, #57), Brandon Murdock (DE, #95), Jack Reed (LS, #59), Anthony Sanders (DB, #20), and Ozzy Gallegos (K, #45) were on hand at Lakeview Terrace Park and were all smiles as they read to eager kids. Pioneer coaches and staff J. Alfred Potter (Receivers), Ben Cambpell (Special Teams), Sarah Kuenzler (Statitician), and Aaron Tyrell-Byrd (Running Backs) joined Damien and the players for this event.
